Our “New Heroes of Sustainable Business” Docuseries Wins its First Film Award
2 min read
Our first-of-its-kind documentary series showcasing business leaders at the forefront of corporate sustainability and environmental, social, and governance (ESG) has won a film award at the 2024 IMPACT DOCS Awards.
The "New Heroes of Sustainable Business” docuseries picked up an Award of Merit Special Mention in the category of Documentary Short in recognition of the creativity, production quality, and entertainment value it demonstrates as well as its contribution to profound social change. IMPACT DOCS is the newest member of the Global Film Awards (GFA) family of competitions and specifically honors documentary filmmakers who are driving positive global change by shifting the perceptions, behaviors, and habits of viewers.
Our docuseries is the brainchild of our CEO and co-founder, Marjella Lecourt-Alma, who came up with the concept as a way to amplify the voices of business leaders who have gone beyond compliance and are championing a smart way to ESG, that starts with governance. Talking about the reason behind the docuseries, Marjella said: “ESG is broken because governance has been overlooked. Many companies have started and stopped at 'disclosure' - pursuing ESG initiatives with no strategic purpose. It’s like driving without knowing where you’re going. The aim of this docuseries is to spotlight business leaders at the forefront of ESG to show companies they can succeed by prioritizing ESG issues that are material to them.”
The trailer for the docuseries was unveiled during Climate Week NYC in September 2023. The event brought together members of the ESG community and included a panel discussion on "How Business Leaders Can Tackle Complex ESG Issues the Smart Way." The panel moderated by international broadcast journalist, Shakuntala Santhiran, featured participants from episode one including consumer advocate, author, and TV host, Erin Brockovich, Partner at Consello Group, Mindy Grossman, and SVP, Chief Legal and Sustainability Officer at Vontier, Katie Rowen, who joined Marjella to share their candid advice on Smart ESG with business leaders.
Since its full release in October 2023, the docuseries has received positive feedback from its intended audience of senior business executives and corporate sustainability professionals. For many executives who find themselves navigating the complexities and challenges of ESG for the first time, the docuseries has offered a lifeline by outlining the smart way to ESG and giving them the confidence to become heroes of sustainability in their own right. Datamaran client and docuseries star, Faith Taylor, Global Sustainability and ESG Officer at Kyndryl said: “The New Heroes docuseries - a humbling journey that reflects the work of so many people. Proud to show how leadership and governance is crucial to delivering sustainable results.”
We are truly honored to have won this film award and to be recognized for the impact our docuseries is having on corporate sustainability and climate change more broadly. We want to thank and congratulate David Smith and his team at Blood UTD for their continued support in producing the docuseries.
We are currently working on episode two, and filming will commence this Spring. We are inviting C-level executives to star in the docuseries and share their personal ESG stories. If you would like to be a part of the series and share your experiences, learnings, setbacks, and successes to inspire the next generation of heroes of sustainable business, apply to participate today.
