4 min read
Today, we’re thrilled to officially launch Collective Impact, a new documentary series from Datamaran that goes beyond traditional narratives to spotlight how leading companies are embedding sustainability into the core of their business strategy.
In each episode, we go inside global organizations to see how cross-functional leadership, data-driven decision-making, and long-term strategic commitment are driving sustainable outcomes for business, society, and the planet. Collective Impact uncovers the powerful interplay between strategy and sustainability – and what it takes for organizations to move from ambition to measurable impact.
Episode 1: Duke Energy – Powering Forward with Purpose
In this first episode, we visit Duke Energy in North Carolina – a Fortune 150 company and one of America’s largest energy holding companies. Serving 8.6 million electric customers across six states and 1.7 million natural gas customers, Duke Energy operates with a focus on reliability, value, and sustainability at scale.
For nearly twenty years, Duke Energy has been recognized as a sustainability leader, appearing on the Dow Jones Sustainability Index for North America for 17 consecutive years. The company has set a clear path to net-zero carbon emissions by 2050, retiring over 50 coal units while significantly expanding its renewable energy portfolio.
During our visit to Duke Energy’s headquarters and facilities, we saw firsthand how engineering, operations, and environmental teams collaborate to modernize infrastructure, advance climate goals, and integrate sustainability into everyday business decisions. The company’s energy transition is ambitious in scale, focusing on grid modernization, resilience, and the integration of renewable and distributed energy resources. Advanced technologies, from AI-driven forecasting to digital operations tools, are helping Duke Energy enhance efficiency and accelerate decarbonization.
In the episode, we meet Duke Energy’s Managing Director of Sustainability, SVP & Chief Information Officer, and SVP Enterprise Strategy and Chief Risk Officer, who share how sustainability risks can become strategic opportunities when owned at the highest levels of leadership. Episode 2: Barco – Innovation with Sustainability at the Core
Our second episode takes us to Barco in Kortrijk, Belgium – a global technology leader in visualization, networking, and collaboration solutions. Barco’s innovative technologies drive advancements in the healthcare, enterprise, and entertainment markets, and sustainability has been central to its strategy since 2015.
Barco’s Sustainable Impact Journey is built on three pillars: protecting the earth, engaging people, and empowering society. This framework guides decision-making across the company and helps translate long-term ambition into measurable outcomes. To track environmental impact, Barco developed its proprietary Ecoscoring system, a lifecycle-based methodology that evaluates product performance. Products that meet high standards earn the Barco Eco-label, contributing to a significant increase in eco-labeled revenue in 2023.
During our visit, leaders from HR, finance, sustainability, and global business units shared how impact, innovation, and purpose are embedded in Barco’s culture and operations. The episode illustrates how Barco’s cross-functional approach and long-term commitment to sustainability not only benefit the environment but also create tangible value for employees, partners, and customers.
Barco’s leadership in sustainability has earned global recognition. The company was included in TIME Magazine’s 2024 and 2025 list of the World’s 500 Most Sustainable Companies and was shortlisted as one of Europe’s Climate Leaders by the Financial Times.
